Consider the system shown in figure below

Assume that F=10^{4} \;\; [N] and L=0.5 \;\; [m]. Determine

1. Reaction forces
2. Moment diagrams
3. Assuming a circular cross-section with a diameter of d, draw a normal stress diagram.
4. Assuming a square cross-section with the side equal to a, draw a normal stress diagram.
5. On the basis of the stress diagram, identify the critical cross-sections in 3 and 4.
6. Choose material and factor of safety, and determine cross-section dimensions in 3 and 4.

7. Model the system in Fusion 360 for square cross-section. Assign boundary conditions.
8. Compute the reaction forces and the normal stress distribution.
9. Compare the results in 8. with 1. and 3. What is a relative error between Fusion 360 simulation and analytical computation?
10. Compute the displacement distribution?
11. What is the von Mises stress?
12. What are principal stresses?
13. Identify a cross-section where the structure will fail when the force is increased (Fusion 360).
14. Optimize the shape of the cross-section such that the mass is reduced while at the same time the strength and integrity of the structure are preserved (Fusion 360).
