About

My name is Aleksandar Haber. I have a Ph.D. degree in Control Theory and Control Engineering from the Delft University of Technology, Delft, Netherlands, and an MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering (automation and control engineering specialization) from the University of Belgrade, Serbia. I was a Postdoctoral Fellow for two years at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Northwestern University. I was a full-time faculty (tenure-track professor) at the City University of New York and Rochester Institute of Technology. I published a significant number of research articles in prestigious control engineering, robotics, signal processing, and optics journals, such as IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, Automatica, IEEE Transactions on Control of Network Systems, Optics Express, Optics Letters, Applied Optics, etc.

I also have significant industry experience. I worked as a Lead Control Engineer and a Principal Guidance, Navigation, and Control Engineer for two aerospace companies in the US. Also, I worked as an Optomechatronics Lead/Senior Control Engineer. I worked on the development and implementation of novel control and estimation algorithms for free-space optical communication, and precise control of adaptive and active optics systems, such as deformable mirrors, fast steering mirrors, etc. Also, I worked on the development of novel wave-front sensing algorithms. Finally, I worked on the design, development, and implementation of the guidance, navigation, and control algorithms for space missions.

Besides this, I participated in and led a large number of short-term and long-term consulting projects that were funded by industry. The projects revolved around numerical optimization, control engineering, multiphysics modeling in COMSOL, finite element analysis, adaptive optics, statistical analysis, machine learning, data science, etc.

My research and industry work was funded by NASA SBIR and DoD STTR programs. Also, while I was in the Netherlands, my PhD work was partly funded by ASML.

I have expertise in

  • Control theory, control engineering, automation, PLCs, industrial robotics, model-based control, system identification, adaptive control, and, model-predictive control, nonlinear control, and PID control.
  • Guidance, navigation, and control.
